Status of women is lower than men and therefore a male child is preferred over a female child. A male child is considered a blessing and his birth is celebrated and a girl is considered more of a burden.  A girl’s discrimination begins even before birth.  The census data clearly shows that the ratio of female births is declining, and it is reluctant to seek medical aid for ailing daughters, the status of the female child has never been the same as the male regardless of the economic background.  From birth to death in the whole life cycle of the girl they are discriminated, also the girl child is breast-fed for a shorter time and drawn out of the school to take care of siblings. Girls are forced to marry at an early age which results in premature pregnancies and expected risks. So, the girl child needs to be empowered to enter the mainstream of education, economic, and social activity.  She needs to be given opportunities to grow in a positive environment and extend support for her overall development.

Girls suffer most 

This fundraising cause is created by an Indian lady, Sharon Elizabeth, who now lives in Finland. She, with her husband, has been working for the target NGO Dalit Women Forum. 

The majority of the target families suffer from fluctuation in their earnings, due to underemployment.  The absence of investment capital and dependency on unskilled labor, largely contribute to this sub-optimal utilization of human power.  On the other hand, most of the target women are unemployed due to a lack of entrepreneurial skills.  As a result, the families deprived of basic needs are forced to continue indebtedness. Ultimately, it is affecting girl children not to send schools overall.

AS Dalit Women Forum strongly believes that working with Children of emancipate them would result in the total development of society. In the process of working with the deprived communities, we have noticed that the youth & children are becoming most vulnerable than other sectors. Youth have become the scapegoats in the hands of local leaders supported by political leaders. Children of 7-14 age groups have become more vulnerable than any other age group.

To mainstream the education of girl children in order to increase their living levels

  3. To make them aware of social values and the importance of a girl child’s education

Project Area

The rapid growth of the urban population across the developing world has been a significant phenomenon during the last few decades, and nearly half of the human population is expected to live in cities/urban agglomeration. Urban poverty has engaged governments in India far less than rural poverty, both in terms of the range of interventions and financial allocations. In absolute numbers, India’s urban population is the second-largest in the world. People come with many expectations and with them bring wealth, skills, and some only hope. The successful ones enjoy the best things offered by the city life, while huge numbers have to be content living on the edge. They live in poor conditions, their housing is often not legalized, they have no decent jobs, their earnings are meager, their children have no access to schools and there is no health care available for them.  They are now called with a new name- the Urban poor and the place they live is called- the Slum.

There are more than 2500 slums in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana state.  Addagutta is one among them.  Addagutta is the second biggest slum in the Asia continent consisting of more than one lakh population. The occupation of the women is domestic work, vegetable vending on mobile carts, daily wage labor, local cigarette rolling, flower vending, and rag picking. Whereas men work as masonry, daily wage labor, auto-rickshaws, and garbage lifters from door to door.  The composition of the community is Scheduled Castes (60%), backward castes like weavers, stone cutters mudirajs, and minorities.

  • 25 children would be enrolled.
  • 6 awareness camps would be organized covering 300 parents
  • 25 children would be retained in the schools.

Monitoring & Evaluation  

The project will be implemented through local volunteers for successful implementation. DWF thoroughly monitors and evaluates the project in all implementation steps. DWF ensures community participation to project success and sustainability of the project beyond the project. The overall report and the audit report will be sent to the donor organization.
